Training : Noted actor,  writer and director of yesteryears Mrs. Chandrima Bhaduri was a family friend.  She recognized Shyam's passion for film making.  She taught him the basics of screen play writing and acting.  Renowned actor of Gujarati and Hindi films and TV serials Reeta Bhaduri saw her mother Mrs. Chandrima Bhaduri training this teenager and decided to push him into the practical grooming.

She introduced Shyam to one of the leading film directors of Gujarati film industry Mr. Subhash J. Shah.  He asked Shyam to join his team of assistant directors.   The film was "Baap Dikaro".The years of working with Mr. Subhash J. Shah were the years of learning the complex skill of film making.

In this process Shyam got a chance to work as an assistant to the famous cinematographer Ranadev Bhaduri in a film titled "Sonaa Ni Jaal" directed by the veteran director Mr. Arun Bhatt.  It was the decade of 1980s.

Then Shyam joined the famous acting institute of Ms. Asha Chandra at Mumbai.
His batch mates were Nagarjuna Akkineni and Chunky Pandey.
